Refrigeration Specialists Inc. (RSI) is a local family-owned and operated company located in Vernon River, PEI. Established and operated by the Douse family since 1970, RSI is one of PEI’s longest running refrigeration companies. Providing services to residential, commercial, industrial and agriculture sectors across PEI, RSI offers a wide range of services, from specializing in refrigeration services to the installation and servicing of heat pumps. If you purchase a heat pump through RSI, they will send you all the paperwork required to complete the PEI Energy Efficiency rebate.

RSI’s service operations expanded in 2020 to include a sister company, J&R Sheet Metal. With this expansion, the company now offers even more services, including:

  • We were looking to change our primary source of heat in our home as our oil tank had expired. After doing some research, we decided to install a mini-split heat pump. As the heat pump was going to be our main source of heat, we started researching top brands. Given its legacy reputation and the top high energy efficiency ratings (SEER and HSPF) it offered, we decided to go with a Fujitsu model. After contacting a couple of Island companies authorized to sell Fujitsu heat pumps, we decided to go with Refrigeration Specialists Inc. Ryan visited our home for the initial consultation and offered some insightful considerations for us that were not offered by other companies such as selecting the right heat pump for our home as well as the optimal location for the unit once installed. Additionally, their price was also the lowest of all the companies we had contacted - a big bonus! The installation process was smooth even though extra caution had to be taken because we have a brick exterior. We also really like how tidy the heat pump looks on the exterior of the home; it is clear the professional staff at Refrigeration Specialists Inc. take great pride in every aspect of their work. We have really enjoyed the heat pump since having it installed. This has been a cold Winter and we have only had to use supplemental heat on a few days. We can't wait until we get to use the cooling feature in the summer! Would highly recommend Refrigeration Specialists Inc. if you are considering installing a heat pump!

  • I had the Fujitsu heat pump installed by Refrigeration Specialists over about a month ago, I was delighted with the service and installation. It works really well with my propane forced air furnace which hardly ever comes on now, the heat pump is also so much quieter than the forced air and I look forward to having the house cool in the summer.

Installation was done very professionally; the technicians removed their boots every time they came in the house and cleaned up any mess created from the install.   • I got several quotes on heat pumps, which were all pretty close. RSI was slightly better, but the deciding point was RSI does not charge a "Service Call Fee (~$100 industry standard)" during the warranty period. Others offered that feature for the first year. So RSI supplied and professionally installed two 15,000 Fujitsu heat pumps (5/5 star!! for communication, and installation) that have a 12 year parts, 10 year labor warranty . Now they have only been in for a couple of weeks, and so far so good; but then because of the warranty, I've got nothing to worry about! I like to program my heat settings, diff temps during the day/night (set it and leave it).

They were installed by 2 different technicians and both crews did an excellent job of both the install and explanation on the dos and don'ts with the units. They arrived at the appointed time and were very tidy and no mess when they left! First Class!

My wife and I were so pleased with the professional attitude they took while dealing with us from the office staff to the workers who did the installation of the unit.   • I have had the pleasure of dealing with this company for close to 40 years. First with Lou Douse and the past few years with Ryan and Amanda. I have used them both for commercial work, and my own home personal needs. When I was involved in the dairy industry and whenever I had issues with my bulk milk cooling tank, it was just a matter of a phone call and they would respond immediately to help me out. Their descriptions on pricing and equipment has always been easy to understand and assistance with paperwork has only made the entire experience a pleasure.

  • Hi, just wanted to let everyone know how wonderful it was to deal with R.S.I. and their staff. We were waiting for a unit that was on back order and I was kept abreast of any updates on its arrival. When it arrived two very professional staff members came and did the installation which was quick and efficient and clean. I had no idea it would be so seamless a procedure.   • I would definitely recommend this company for your heat pump install. The two gentleman that came to do the install ran into a little wiring issue that wasn't in the initial install plan so they were immediately on the phone to the office staff and they had a red seal electrician on site within minutes. We called the office to go over solutions and with the input from the team we came up with a solution in minutes. Red seal electrician stayed on site and explained everything in detail . Job done in less than 2 hours. These guys were great, polite, friendly, knowledgeable and after they left, you wouldn't have known they were here. Excellent clean up. So right from the start in the install guys, the office staff and the electrician top notch service.
